Reflections is our family holiday home on the Habitat Group's Silverlake estate, just to the south east of Dorchester in Dorset.
We designed Reflections to be a family holiday home, child and dog friendly but also to generate more energy than it uses each year. The aim is for Reflections to be comfortable at all times of the year, easy to live in and a delightful place to stay. So it is a Net Zero home but without any technology bling or complications.
There is a large lakeside deck with glass balustrading to allow children and dogs to safely sit outside. The house has two double bedrooms each with en-suite (one on the ground floor), a twin bedroom and a children's room with bunk bed together with a family bathroom.
Downstairs there is also an entrance lobby, WC, utility room, living and dining area and kitchen. And a dinosaur - a five metre long plesiosaur to be precise.
The construction comprises a well insulated structure with triple glazed windows and a large photo-voltaic roof to generate electricity. To ensure comfort and fresh air all year round, there is a ventilation system combined with underfloor heating. See the Technical pages for more details.
